What Is an eBook – Defining It

In this digital age, the word eBook is thrown about every other second. It has become the norm. So, we thought to help define the word in detail for better understanding. The appellation is a shortened form for electronic book, and it can be stylised as eBook or e-book. What is an electronic book? Any book that is published in a digital format comes within this category. Like an average, traditional volume, an eBook can contain:

• Text

• Images

• Both

One can read an e-book on a flat display or what you and I call a screen. Any gadget that has a display can be employed to open and browse an eBook such as:

• Computers

• Laptops

• Tabs

• E-readers

• Phones

Effectively, any device that has a comfortable screen view can be wielded to read an e-book. It is not mandatory to have a dedicated tool for eBooks, though most bibliophiles prefer them.

Earlier an e-book was just an electronic version of an already published book but as times evolved this fact changed. Today, there are many books that are available only in electronic form, i.e., there is no corresponding printed version. The tipping point came in 2012 when there were more volumes published in the virtual world than in printed, paperback forms.
